As a speaker before audiences at universities, government organizations, and churches, Philip creates safe spaces for open and honest dialogue [raw and uncut conversations] about sexual and mental health. He uses his personal experience living with HIV, Bipolar Disorder and PTSD to educate others and break the stigma and shame associated with HIV and sexual transmitted infections and mental health challenges. As a psychotherapist, Phil takes on a holistic approach to therapy because he believes in addressing the “whole” person in therapy based on the eight dimensions of wellness; spiritual, emotional, intellectual, physical, financial, environmental, occupational, and social. Phil supports an accountable, supportive, non-judgmental, and culturally sensitive environment for all clients. He encourages clients to find meaning in their past experiences and works with them to discover how those experiences are affecting how they perceive their world in the present. He believes that by gaining insight and increasing awareness, people can become more empowered to take control of how they respond to life's adversities.
As a national HIV advocate and spokesperson, Phil empowers persons with HIV to take back their power, accepting their “new life” as a new beginning. He works diligently on eradicating the shame and stigma of HIV, STIs, and human sexuality by way of education and promotion of sex positivity including his #FREE99 campaign.
